Former Treasury Secretary Summers Leaves from AI Company's Directors
One-time economic leader Larry Summers is leaving the governing body at the artificial intelligence firm, just several days after a collection of emails between him and late convicted sex offender the accused trafficker became public.
The economist commented in a statement that he was "appreciative for the opportunity to have participated, excited about the prospects of the enterprise, and eagerly await following their progress".
Summers, who previously presided over the Ivy League institution, announced on recently that he would be withdrawing from public commitments due to his relationship with Epstein.
Email Communications
The freshly disclosed messages demonstrated that Summers exchanged messages with the financier until the 24 hours preceding his 2019 apprehension for alleged human trafficking of underage individuals.
In a separate statement, the artificial intelligence company said it understood his decision to resign.
"We acknowledge his numerous inputs and the perspective he provided to the governing body," the organization stated.
Legislative Background
This announcement follows after both chambers of Congress agreed on this week to pass a bill that would compel the Department of Justice to make public its records on Epstein.
The legislation will afterward move to the administration of US President Donald Trump for signature. The President has stated he plans to endorse the legislation, after modifying his stance on the matter following pressure from his base.
Correspondence Findings
A batch of Epstein-connected messages disclosed by the Congressional committee recently included several prominent individuals in the Epstein's past associates, without suggesting any criminal activity by those figures.

After the messages were released with the general audience, the former official said he accepted "total ownership for my misguided choice to persist in corresponding with the financier".

The professor occupied high-level positions under two Democratic presidents; acting as economic leader under President Clinton, and as director of the economic advisory body under President Obama.
He presided over Harvard from 2001 to 2006 and continues to be a academic there. When declaring his departure from public duties earlier on this week, he stated he would maintain his educational duties.

Following the economist's announcement on Monday, the Washington think tank, a progressive think tank in Washington where Summers was a researcher, verified that Summers was no longer affiliated with the institution.
